Abstract:
The present report on the performance of a gyro plane contains the first really satisfactory set of full scale data to be obtained in this country, and affords a valuable means of checking a body of theoretical investigation which has been growing up during the past twelve years. The greater part of this gyroplane theory can be transferred with little change to the case of the helicopter, on which full scale evidence is still almost completely lacking. In particular, the freedom of the blades to flap, which has played a considerable part in increasing the difficulty of gyroplane theory, seems likely to become an essential feature of all helicopters.
