The equations of two-dimensional compressible flow are treated according to the Prandtl-Busemann small-disturbance method. In contrast to the usual procedure, the independent variables are the compressible velocity potential and stream function and the dependent variables are the rectangular Cartesian coordinates in the plane of flow.
