Dynamics of an axial-flow turbojet engine with a fixed area exhaust nozzle were obtained from successively larger transients including successful accelerations through surge. In the low-speed range, appreciable changes in thrust were obtainable only as a result of changes in speed. Beyond an optimum step increase in fuel flow at each engine speed, further increases in the size of the fuel step did not result in further increases in acceleration and thrust, and a curve of maximum acceleration was obtained. Maximum acceleration and thrust appeared obtainable through the use of a proposed fuel schedule that required only small initial steps in fuel flow.
