Pressure drop in coolant passages of two air-cooled turbine-blade configurations

Friction coefficients were experimentally determined for both isothermal and nonisothermal flows in a pressure drop investigation conducted on two air-cooled turbine-blade configurations. A reasonable check was obtained between the air-cooled-blade friction coefficients. The data were used to develop a simplified flow equation for calculating over-all pressure drops through air-cooled blades and to examine the magnitude of entrance losses which might be expected in the entrance sections of air-cooled blades. A procedure that may be used for the calculation of air-cooled-blade pressure drops is presented.
