The study of spontaneous ignition characteristics of organic compounds has been continued with major emphasis on the various types of lubricating oils. The usefulness of the crucible apparatus previously described in NACA TN 2549 has been extended to these less-volatile materials by employing spray injection as well as dropwise addition of the liquid to the ignition chamber.
