An approximate method for calculation of the laminar boundary layer with suction for bodies of arbitrary shape


An approximate method for the calculation of the incompressible laminar boundary layer for an arbitrary pressure distribution and for an arbitrary distribution of suction through the surface is developed. The calculation requires the integration of a first order differential equation by a numerical or graphical process. Several cases for which exact solutions exist are computed and the results compared with those from the exact solutions. As examples the boundary layer characteristics of a cylinder and of a Joukowsky airfoil are computed when the cylinder and airfoil have a constant flow velocity through the surface.
