A strain-energy theory similar to one developed earlier at PIBAL (Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn Aeronautical Laboratories) was established for the calculation of the buckling lead in pure bending of reinforced monocoque cylinders which have a symmetric cutout on the compression side and buckle according to general-instability patterns. The difference between the present and the earlier theories is that use of the axial wave length as an additional parameter whose value was determined from a minimum condition.
