An investigation has been made in the Langley free-flight tunnel to determine the effect of the sloshing of fuel in partly filled, unbaffled tanks on the lateral stability of a free-flying model. Two transparent plexiglass spheres 8 inches in diameter, mounted fore and aft equidistant from the center of gravity, were used to simulate fuel tanks.
