A method for calculating the upwash-velocity component in the vicinity of thin wings at supersonic speeds is presented. The method is applied to obtain an explicit expression for the upwash over with tips of fairly general plan form and profile. As a special case, numerical values are presented for the slopes of the streamlines off the tip of a rectangular plan-form thin flat-plate wing. The formulation is extended to give a method for obtaining the velocity potential at points on arbitrary thin wings influenced by isolated or interacting external flow fields off this wing plan form.
